Benfleet
Benfleet is a small town in Essex, a few miles to the West of Southend. It is sometimes known as South Benfleet, to distinguish it from North Benfleet a few miles away.
Formerly a fishing village, it stands on Benfleet Creek, an arm of the estuary of the River Thames.
A bridge links Benfleet to Canvey Island.
In 894, the Battle of Benfleet was an English victory against the Danish forces of Hasten, who had left a small garrison behind while he harried other parts of the country.
Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Benfleet for groups.
