Atherstone
Atherstone is an old market town in Warwickshire, 5 miles from Nuneaton.
It is on the famous old Roman road known as Watling Street, and was once known for boot and shoe manufacture, as well as that of hats.
St. Mary`s Church was originally the chapel of a friary which once stood on adjacent land. There is a Norman doorway which was brought from a nearby village.
There are some good buildings, including coaching inns, dating back to the 16th century in the main street and around the Market Place.
An annual wild game of football is played in the streets of Atherstone on Shrove Tuesday.
Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Atherstone for groups.
