Aberystwyth
Aberystwyth is a large coastal town in Dyfed in Mid Wales, on Cardigan Bay and 40 miles from Carmarthen.
It successfully combines the roles of university seat and popular seaside resort.
On a hill overlooking the town is the main campus of the University of Wales at Aberystwyth, as well as the National Library of Wales.
Aberystwyth Castle, on a promontary dividing the beach in two, is now a ruin. It dates back to the 13th century.
Aberystwyth Pier is now a small affair, and can only be entered to use the amusement arcade.
Opposite is the original Victorian university building.
There is a funicular railway leading to a hilltop, on which is now a Camera Obscura.
The Ceredigion Museum occupies rooms in the Coliseum, a restored Edwardian theatre.
