St. George and the Dragons (A Guided Walk in Leicester)
"St. George and the Dragons" is a Guided Walk for St. George's Day in Leicester, devised and led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.
These strolls are an excellent way of soaking up some Local History.
The walk starts outside the Town Hall.
St. George is the patron saint of England, and all English people should be aware that St. George's Day is 23rd April.
This walk takes the form of a hunt for mythical beasts.
In particular, it is a hunt around the streets of Leicester City Centre and Old Town for dragons - or more specifically the dragon-like beasts known as wyverns that are common, but rarely noticed, in the city.
Dragons, as everybody knows, breathe fire and menace maidens, and have four legs, like lizards. Wyverns behave in a similar way, but only have two legs, like birds.
Once you have had these wyverns pointed out to you on the walk, you will never forget them.
