St. Albans and Verulamium (A Coach Trip in St. Albans)
"St. Albans and Verulamium" is one of the Coach Trips devised and led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.
These excursions are an excellent way of soaking up some Local History.
The coach departs from St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester at 8am, and returns about 9pm.
Colin gives his usual commentary along the way, bringing to life the sights and places seen on the route. This is what makes Colin`s trips unique.
St. Albans is a historic cathedral city in Hertfordshire. St. Albans Abbey, which now has cathedral status, was built on the site where St. Alban, Britain`s first Christian martyr, was beheaded.
A short walk outside the present city centre is the site of Verulamium, an important Roman city, and one of the three destroyed by Boudicca in her rebellion, along with Colchester and London. Like the others, it was rebuilt, and extensive remains can be seen today.
Just outside the abbey is a thriving Market Place.
As part of the trip, Colin leads a Guided Walk around St. Albans, pointing out many places of inerest, including St. Albans Abbey, the remains of Verulamium, the historic Clock Tower and the Abbey Gateway.
