Southend (A Coach Trip in Southend)
"Southend" is a Coach Trip devised and led by the well-known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours, as part of his year-round programme.
These excursions are an excellent way of soaking up some Local History.
The coach for Southend leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester at 8am, and is expected back about 9.30pm.
Colin will be giving his inimitable commentary along the way, bringing the interesting places en route to life.
He will also be leading a Guided Walk around Southend, pointing out many places of interest, including the world famous Southend Pier, Prittlewell Square, the Royal Hotel, the Kursaal and the lovely Cliff Town area.
Southend was once a tiny collection of fishermen's cottages at the South end of the ancient village of Prittlewell, where the sumptuous burial of a Saxon king was discovered at the beginning of the 21st century.
It became a fashionable resort thanks to Caroline, Princess of Wales, who brought her daughter here to improve her health.
Southend is now a popular seaside resort and a regional shopping and commercial centre. Its parks and gardens are among the best in the land.
The coach will also wend its way through some of the lovely Essex countryside.
Southend is Colin's home town. He was born in the nearby market town of Rochford.
