Rugby (A Guided Walk in Rugby)
“Rugby” is a Guided Walk devised and led by Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours, the well known Blue Badge Guide.
These strolls are a most enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.
The starting point for this walk is the Clock Tower, at the start of the old Market Place.
During the walk, Colin discusses the history of this old Warwickshire town, which was little more than a village until the mid 19th century, when a combination of the advent of the railways and the development of Rugby School under the great Dr. Arnold thrust it into national prominence.
Rugby football was invented at the school, and it is this sport which has made the name of Rugby world famous.
The route for the walk includes the main shopping areas, as well as views of Rugby School and of the statue to the poet Rupert Brooke, who was born in the town.
Colin lived and worked in Rugby during the early 1980s.
