Rochford (A Guided Walk in Rochford)

“Rochford” is a Guided Walk devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These strolls are a most enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

Colin was in fact born in this historic Essex market town, and lived here in the early 1970s, when he was a leading member and Public Relations Officer of the Rochford Hundred Amenities Society.

The walk starts outside the Former Public Library in the Market Square, off West Street in the town centre.

The route for this walk covers all the main streets in the old centre, and in fact stays very close to the centre.

On the way, Colin discusses some of Rochford’s colourful history, involving Henry IV, who as Henry Bolingbroke was married here, Anne Boleyn, who lived at Rochford Hall, and Oliver Cromwell, who met his wife by the River Roach.

There is also a discussion of some Essex building traditions, and of the Peculiar People, the Christian sect which was founded in Rochford.

Colin leads Guided Walks in other historic Essex towns, including Rayleigh, Southend, Leigh and Maldon.
