Old Humberstone (A Guided Walk in Leicester)

"Old Humberstone" is one of the Guided Walks devised and led by Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours, the well known Blue Badge Guide.

These strolls are a most enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

Humberstone is one of the villages which are now suburbs of Leicester, but where a close look will reveal clues to the old village nature. The other such villages are Belgrave, Evington, Knighton, Aylestone and Braunstone.

"Old Humberstone" starts outside St. Marys Church Humberstone, the old village's mediaeval church.

Among the points of interest to be seen on the way round are the lovely Monks Rest Gardens, where travellers would stop on their way between Leicester Abbey and Launde Abbey.

Those taking part will also have a close up view of the enigmatic Humber Stone, which for centuries has been said to bring bad luck to anybody who attempts to move it.
