Morecambe Bay Tour (A Coach Trip in Lancashire)
The "Morecambe Bay Tour" is one of the Coach Trips devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritsge Tours.
Colin`s excursions are a most enjoyable way of picking up some Local History.
This tour is around the fascinating country on the Lancashire side of Morecambe Bay, with its wonderful views across to the mountains of the Lake District.
The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in the City Centre of Leicester at 8am, and is expected back about 9pm.
Colin gives his inimitable commentary along the way, bringing to life places of interest in a way that makes his excursions quite unique.
There are three stops, of about an hour each.
Heysham has an ancient Anglo-Saxon church, built in the 10th century, which is one of the oldest churches continuing in regular use in Europe. But on the clifftop above the church are the remains of the even earlier St. Patrick`s Chapel, with a series of rockhewn graves which are unique in Britain.
Morecambe is a famous seaside resort which has been busily renewin itself in recent years. On the seafront is the statue of Eric Morecambe, a native of the town.
Lancaster is a fine old city, with castle and priory standing together on the hilltop, and an attractive former seaport along he banks of the River Lune.
There will also be a short stop at Carnforth, where the railway station was the setting for the 1945 David Lean film "Brief Encounter".
