Kibworth (A Guided Walk in Kibworth)

"Kibworth" is a Guided Walk devised and led by the well-known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours, who leads walks and Coach Trips throughout the year.

These walks are an enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

The walk starts outside St. Wilfrids Church, on the street leading down from the main road to the village centre.

Colin will be pointing out many places of interest along the way.

Kibworth is actually two villages, Kibworth Harcourt and Kibworth Beauchamp, which over the years have grown together.

St. Wilfrid's serves both villages. There was once a small church at Kibworth Harcourt, but nobody is sure of its exact location.

From St. Wilfrid's, the route goes into Kibworth Beauchamp, where the shops and Library are. It is an attractive place, with an old manor house, a Georgian Grammar School and an old cob wall.

Kibworth Harcourt is smaller, but contains the non-conformist academy where Philip Doddridge taught, as well as the Congregational Chapel, which has an important place in the history of modern tourism. Thomas Cook was walking past the chapel when he hit upon the idea of hiring a train for his first trip, from Leicester to Loughborough.

Also at Kibworth Harcourt is the motte of a small motte and bailey castle. The Jarrow Marchers stopped here on their way to London.
