Foulness Island (A Coach Trip in Foulness Island)
"Foulness Island" is one of the truly fascinating Coach Trips devised and led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby.
These excursions are an excellent way of soaking up some Local History.
Foulness Island is on the Essex coast, and one of England`s largest islands. It is situated where the estuary of the River Thames meets the North Sea, and is a famous breeding ground for birds, being visited annually by ten thousand Brent geese.
The island has for many years been out of bounds to all but its small population, being used for military purposes by the Ministry of Defence.
Occasionally, though, arrangements can be made for a group to visit.
The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester City Centre at 8am, and is due to return about 9pm.
Colin, who is himself a native of Essex, born a few miles away at Rochford, will be giving his usual commentary along the way, bringing to life the places and sights encountered en route.
After leaving Foulness Island, there will be a visit to the major seaside resort of Southend.
