Derbyshire Borders Tour (A Coach Trip in Derbyshire)

“Derbyshire Borders Tour” is a Coach Trip devised and led by the Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

Colin's excursions are an enjoyable way of learning some Local History.

It is one of the morning trips, around the Leicestershire area, which are very popular with people who would prefer not to be out for the whole day.

This trip concentrates on the historic area around the borders between Leicestershire and Derbyshire.

The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester City Centre at 9.30am, and returns about 2pm.

The format for these excursions is that one stays on the coach most of the time, while Colin gives his usual commentary, but there is a stop around halfway round at a pleasant location, where one can buy tea, coffee, cakes etc.

Among the interesting places in the area covered by the tour are Shardlow, a canal settlement; Breedon-on-the Hill, whose church has amazing Anglo-Saxon sculptures; Melbourne, the birthplace of Thomas Cook; Staunton Harold, where a church was controversially built during the Commonwealth period; and Repton, the old capital of the Kingdom of Mercia.

And the tour runs through plenty of lovely countryside.
