Working in Romford

One of the places where I worked briefly many years ago was Romford, in the part of Greater London that used to be Essex.

When I was a young Assistant Manager with the Rank Organisation, before I was actually appointed as a Manager in my own right, I had to go out on relief to various other cinemas, to be in charge when the Manager was on days off, or sick, or on holiday, or otherwise not there.

From time to time I had to spend a couple of days at the Odeon Romford. This was quite a big cinema, and situated in South Street beside Romford Station.

It closed as a cinema a good number of years ago, but the building is still there, and to the best of my knowledge still has an entertainment function.

I also occasionally used to visit the ABC Romford, to watch a film.

If anybody reading this has any connection with Romford, or East London generally (Born? Lived? Worked? Ancestors? Relatives?), I will be very pleased to hear from them.
