Tower Planned for Brighton Pier

A new landmark observation tower is being planned for the West Pier at Brighton.

If planning permission is granted, the tower will be needle thin and 183 metres tall, higher than Blackpool Tower, the Spinnaker Tower at Portsmouth or the London Eye.

The name of the proposed structure is Brighton i – 360. It is planned to be constructed at the landward end of the West Pier.

A doughnut shaped observation capsule will move up and down about every thirty minutes, giving views, not only of Brighton itself, but also the South Downs and as far as Beachy Head to the East and Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight to the West. The very top will be illuminated at night.

It is estimated that the cost, privately funded, will be £20 million, and it will take about two years to design and build.
