Reopening of Launde Abbey
The excellent Launde Abbey, now used as a retreat by the Diocese of Leicester, is to be reopened this year.
Launde Abbey is hidden away in the folds of hills in beautiful High Leicestershire. You would never come across it by accident, making it ideal for the purpose.
Originally an Augustinian priory, it lasted until the Dissolution of the Monasteries, when Thomas Cromwell made a note that he would like it for himself.
The house that stands today was built in the 17th century.
Prince Charles and Camilla visited recently, to see the improvements that have been made during the recent necessary refurbishment.
Launde Abbey will be officially reopened on Bank Holiday Monday 30th May.
