Favourite Christmas Carols
"Ding Dong Merrily on High" was the title of a talk which I gave recently for the Groby Village Society.
It was at the Groby Village Hall, housed in the old school at the heart of this fascinating old village near Leicester.
The subject of the talk is the background to everybody's favourite Christmas carols.
Just think, I asked members at Groby, of your favourite Christmas carols and shout them out to me.
People are always surprised at how many really popular ones there are.
"Away in a Manger", "The First Noel", "God Rest You Merry Gentlemen", "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", "Once in Royal David's City", "Silent Night", "While Shepherds Watched" .... the list goes on and on.
During this talk, I give the background to these and many others. Some, for example, were written by famous poets or famous composers. Others were written under unusual circumstances.
It's always a popular talk.
And of course, if you would like me to come and give this talk to your group, do get in touch. A phone call on 0116 - 2611576 usually does the trick.
