Excellent Familiarisation Day in Calderdale
I attended an excellent Familiarisation Day recently, organised by the council at Calderdale in West Yorkshire.
Those of us who attended (group travel organisers, mainly) met at the Holiday Inn at Clifton, just outside Brighouse, where we had the chance to chat with representatives of some of the local attractions.
After an introductory talk, we all boarded a vintage coach for a tour of the area. The coach and its driver are available to groups for hire.
Our first stop was at Halifax, where we visited the magnificent Piece Hall, Halifax Minster and the Indoor Market.
Then it was on to Hebden Bridge, where we had a buffet lunch followed by a tour of this delightful little town.
From there, we were driven up a steep hill to the earlier settlement of Heptonstall, where the parish church has the extensive ruins of an earlier church in the churchyard.
Accommodation was available overnight at the Holiday Inn, but I could not avail myself of this as I had a commitment the following day.
But it was an excellent day, and I strongly recommend you to visit this fine area.
