Enjoyable Weekend in Yorkshire
Anne and I had an enjoyable weekend recently with the Northern branch of the Group Travel Organisers Association (GTOA) in South Yorkshire.
We travelled up on the Friday, and checked into the Park Inn at Wath-upon-Dearne at lunchtime. During the afternoon everybody had the opportunity to chat with suppliers from the South Yorkshire area.
In the evening, after dinner, there was entertainment from local group the Tetley Tea Bags.
Saturday was spent visiting various attractions. In the morning, we went to the National Coalmining Museum at Overton, and this included a fascinating underground tour.
Lunch, buffet style, was taken at the Tankersley Manor restaurant, converted from a 16th century house.
Then in the afternoon we visited Brodsworth Hall, with its fine gardens, and the extraordinary Wentworth Castle.
After dinner, yours truly gave a talk about the desirability of using a Blue Badge Guide, with a number of stories thrown in.
On the Sunday morning, I sat in on the branch`s annual general meeting, while Anne went to the service at All Saints Church.
We were home by mid evening, having had a successful weekend.
