Did You Miss Tissington?
My recent Coach Trip to Tissington was a great success.
I organised a trip to Tissington in Derbyshire for the Well Dressing. This takes place on the Ascension weekend every year, as a Christian thanksgiving for God’s gift of pure water and deliverance from the Great Plague in the 17th century, although it probably originated much earlier than that as worship of pagan water gods.
Six wells are decorated every year, by teams of villagers who put an enormous amount of work into both the design and the execution. The designs are always on Biblical themes.
Everybody was very impressed indeed with the Well Dressing, and of course for the idyllic nature of the village itself.
We went on from Tissington to Bakewell, on the lovely River Wye, which is one of my favourite small towns anywhere.
And on the way back to Leicester, we took a very nice route through Derbyshire, viewing Chatsworth House.
Coach Trips coming up include John Clare Country Tour, Heart of England Tour, Captain Cook Country Tour and Ely.
