A Weekend in Yorkshire
My wife Anne and I recently went on a weekend coach break, with the Skills coach company, in Yorkshire.
I find it very relaxing to go on other people`s trips, even though as a Blue Badge Guide I lead a full programme of Guided walks and Coach Trips. Going as a passenger means I am not in charge of anything!
We left St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester on the Saturday morning, and made a stop along the way at Woolley Edge Services.
Our first major stop was at the attractive market town of Skipton, from where we had a leisurely ride along the canal in a narrow boat.
From there we went on to Keighley, and boarded a steam train on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, of "The Railway Children" fame, which took us as far as Oxenhope.
We stayed overnight at a hotel on the outskirts of Huddersfield.
On the Sunday, we were taken to Haworth, best known for its Bronte connections. We walked up and down the picturesque main street, visited the church and had time to visit two different tea shops for coffee and scones.
On the way back to Leicester, we stopped again at Woolley Edge.
And yes, it was a nice break.
