£350 million Highcross Opens in Leicester
Yesterday (Thursday 4th September) was a very important day for Leicester, with the opening of the Highcross shopping centre.
It`s taken around three years and has cost £350 million, but at last the centre is open.
Highcross is an amazingly designed centre which is an extension of The Shires, the already impressive centre opened in 1991.
It includes a giant John Lewis store, and a multi-screen cinema, the Cinema De Lux, opened the following day. Other outlets include Apple, Next, Wagamama and Nando`s.
The architecture is very impressive indeed, and there are some very effective artworks.
There are several bus stops immediately outside the centre.
City Council leader Ross Willmott says that yesterday was one of the greatest days in the city`s history.
