St. Nicholas` Church (Witham)

St. Nicholas` Church is the parish church of the old market town of Witham in Essex.

It is situated in the part of the town named Chipping Hill, where Edward the Elder established one of his burhs.

St. Nicholas` is a large flint church, rebuilt mostly in the 14th century.

The West tower is 14th century, as are the nave, chancel and South porch, while the chancel chapels date from the 15th century.

The South door is a remnant of an earlier church, dating from about 1200.

There are some good 16th century and 17th century monuments.
