St. Mary and St. Nicholas Church (Wilton)
St. Mary and St. Nicholas Church is the parish church of the ancient town of Wilton in Wiltshire.
A most unusual looking church, it was built between 1841 and 1845, and designed in the Lombardic style of Italy. The architect was T. H. Wyatt.
It is built on a North - South axis (as opposed to the normal East - West), and has an excellent detached bell tower.
There are four twisted columns which form part of the font. They date from around 1250, and were brought from a shrine in Rome.
The church contains some mediaeval stained glass, some as early as 12th century.
