St. Michael and All Angels Church (Whitwell)
St. Michael and All Angels is the parish church of the little Rutland vilage of Whitwell.
There is long and short work at a corner of the nave, which would normally indicate an Anglo-Saxon foundation.
The bellcote dates from the 13th century, and so does the doorway, with its round arch.
Many old churches have a piscina, but St. Michael's has no less than four.
The font is probably Anglo-Saxon, while the pulpit and altar rail date from the 17th century.
The "white well" which gives the village its name issues from beneath the church.
