St. Mary`s Church Steps (Whitby)
St. Mary`s Church Steps are a fascinating feature of the old town of Whitby.
It is a flight of steps leading from the East side of the harbour, where the oldest houses are, to St. Marys Church on the cliff top.
The steps were originally built of wood in the 14th century, and replaced in stone during the 18th and 19th century. There is a slope beside them.
There are 199 steps, which are Grade 1 listed.
