St. Elphin`s Church (Warrington)

St. Elphin`s Church is the parish church of Warrington.

It is basically a mediaeval church, first built in the 7th century, but it was rebuilt in the 19th century by Frederick and Horace Francis. Only the chancel remains of the 14th century church.

The magnificent spire rises to 280 feet and is the third highest in England.

The chancel was erected in 1354 by Sir William de Boteler, and contains some fine mediaeval monuments.

The East window was designed by Augustus Pugin.
