James Herriot`s House (Thirsk)
James Herriot`s House is now a popular visitor attraction in the pleasant market town of Thirsk.
It is situated in Kirkgate.
This is the house where James Herriot, famous for his "All Creatures Great and Small" books, lived.
His real name was Alf Wight, and he moved to Thirsk in 1940, joining the veterinary practice of Donald Sinclair. He published his first book of memoirs in 1970, and continued in practice until he died in 1995.
The house itself is Georgian, but has been restored internally to its 1950s appearance.
There is also a mock-up of TV studio, from the popular TV series, and a museum of veterinary science. The Tourist Information Centre is also in the house.
