Thetford Priory (Thetford)
The ruins of the Priory of Our Lady form one of the more spectacular aspects of the ancient town of Thetford in Norfolk.
It was a Cluniac Priory, founded around 1100, and the most important of several religious foundations in the town.
The Lady Chapel was a centre for pilgrimage, said to have miraculous powers of healing.
There are extensive ruins of the church, cloisters, gatehouse, Prior's Lodgings and Lady Chapel on a large site close to the River Little Ouse.
There have been many stories of ghostly monks being seen among the ruins.
