Old Baptist Chapel (Tewkesbury)
The Old Baptist Chapel in the splendid Gloucestershire market town of Tewkesbury is one of the most historic non-conformist places of worship in England.
It is situated in one of the old passages that lead down to the lovely River Avon, close to its confluence with the River Severn.
The passage is off Church Street, and opposite Tewkesbury Abbey.
The chapel was originally a timber framed mediaeval house, and has beams that date from the 15th century. It was converted for use by the Baptists in around 1620.
The appearance from outside is of 18th century, at which time the upper floor was given a Minister's room.
It is likely that this is the oldest Baptist chapel in England.
The Old Bptist Chapel is open to the public at all reasonable times.
