Teignmouth Pier (Teignmouth)
Teignmouth Pier is one of a dwindling number of English seaside piers, a fascinating and much loved institution.
The pier stands on the South coast, at Teignmouth in South Devon.
It was designed by pier specialist Joseph William Wilson and opened in 1867, with a length of 700 feet.
Teignmouth Pier has the distinction of having been the first British seaside pier to feature coin-operatd "What the Butler Saw" machines.
In the late 19th century, there was an extraordinary scheme to move the entire pier to nearby Paignton, but it was decided that there would be too many logistical problems.
Today the pier remains a popular feature of Teignmouth`s attractions.
