Southwold Pier (Southwold)

The pier at the charming Suffolk seaside town of Southwold has been brilliantly reconstructed.

Southwold was on the network of towns served by steamers from Tower Pier in London, and including Gravesend, Southend, Margate, Ramsgate and Clacton.

After the war, the pier, like a number of others, gradually decayed.

But a local businessman refused to see the pier die, and he has made a wonderful job of restoration. Among the splendid features of what is to all intents and purposes a new attraction, the scientist and cartoonist Tim Hunkin has created a wonderfully clever, rather rude and very popular water feature.
