Queen Victoria Statue (Southend)
The Queen Victoria Statue stands in a very pleasant part of the Essex resort of Southend.
The statue is on the edge of Cliff Town, an elegant part of the town on top of the cliffs above Eastern Esplanade and overlooking Southend Pier.
The original position of the statue was on the top of Pier Hill, a much busier place.
It was always said that Queen Victoria was pointing out across the ocean, to the distant lands of the British Empire where the sun never set.
In fact, she was doing something much more useful. She was pointing to the Gents toilet.
