Porters (Southend)
Porters is an elegant old house in Southend which is now used as the Mayor's Parlour.
It stands in Southchurch Road, the main road leading out of the town centre towards Southchurch, in its own grounds, behind a high wall.
A former manor house, it is an H-shaped brick building of about 1600, but with traces of an earlier house.
Porters was for many years known simply as "Porters Farm", but was clearly of some importance in the Jacobean age.
