Central Museum (Southend)
The Central Museum is a very interesting museum in the Essex town and seaside resort of Southend.
It is situated in Victoria Avenue in the town centre, close to Southend Victoria Station and Victoria Circus.
It is a fine Edwardian building, dating from the early years of the 20th century, and was formerly the town's Central Library. This function moved next door to a new building in the 1960s.
The Central Museum features splendid displays of archaeology, natural history and local history, telling the long story of man's settlement in South East Essex.
Also in the building is the Planetarium, the only one in the South East outside London.
