Adventure Island (Southend)
Adventure Island is a fun fair by the sea in the popular Essex resort of Southend.
It is situated in sunken reclaimed land on either side of Southend Pier.
The Western half was formerly known as Peter Pan's Playground, and always featured the sort of attractions normally associated with fairgrounds.
The Eastern part was previously a boating lake.
The two halves are linked by a path that runs below the pier.
A line on the Crooked House in the former Peter Pan's Playground shows the height to which the sea rose during the disastrous and fatal East Coast floods of 1953.
