Southampton City Art Gallery (Southampton)
The Southampton City Art Gallery is an outstanding regional gallery.
It is situated in the Civic Centre in Commercial Road.
The original gallery was opened in 1939, but a few months later received a direct hit from a bomb, killing several students, and it did not open again during the war.
When the collection was being built up again, Southampton was advised by Kenneth Clark.
There is a good collection of 20th century paintings and ceramics.
