Malmesbury House (Salisbury)
Malmesbury House is a historic house in Salisbury.
It is one of the buildings situated in The Close.
The house was built in the early 17th century, and extended by Alexander Fort, Christopher Wren`s assistant, in 1698 for the owner, James Harris. The family later became Earls of Malmesbury.
Charles II stayed in Malmesbury House in 1665, when escaping from the plague in London, and Handel also stayed there when arriving in England.
It was bought in 1968 by John Cordle MP, who has carried out a fine restoration.
