Leper Chapel (Ripon)
The Leper Chapel is one of the many historic buildings in the ancient cathedral city of Ripon in Yorkshire.
It can be found in Magdalen Street, a few minutes walk from the busy centre.
It is the chapel of the Hospital of St. Mary Magdalene, founded in 1117 by Archbishop Thurstan of York, and was one of three hospitals in mediaeval Ripon.
The local name Leper Chapel stems from the hospital's function of looking after those with leprosy.
There are still almshouses across the road, and the chapel itself was restored in the 1980s.
