St. Agatha`s Church (Portsmouth)
St. Agatha`s Church is an outstanding Catholic church at Portsmouth.
It is situated in Market Way, between the main shopping centre and the Royal Dockyard.
The church is a grand Italianate basilica, built in 1894 and enriched with marble, granite and carved stone.
The apse contains Britain`s largest sgraffito mural, executed by Heywood Sumner in 1901, and work by several leading architects including Ninian Comper and Norman Shaw.
St. Agatha`s has appeared on TV`s "Casualty".
