Portsmouth City Museum and Art Gallery (Portsmouth)
The Portsmouth City Museum and Art Gallery houses a remarkable collection of artefacts relating to the city`s history and culture.
It is situated in Museum Road.
The original museum was established in the late 19th century in the Old Town Hall, but the building and the collection were destroyed during the Blitz in 1941. A public appeal after the war brought a wonderful new collection.
There is much maritime history, much about local man Charles Dickens, and paintings by local artists and of local subjects.
