Pershore Abbey (Pershore)
The Abbey Church of Holy Cross with St. Edburgha is the full name of the famous abbey at Pershore in Worcestershire.
Pershore Abbey was founded by the Benedictines in the Norman period, but at the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII was largely dismantled.
However, the townspeople of Pershore paid £400 for the choir, the transepts and the tower, and it is now the town`s parish church.
The ringing platform, likened to a cat`s cradle, was designed by Gilbert Scott in the 19th century, enabling the interior of the tower to be seen from the floor.
There is a fine lantern at the top of the tower.
