New College (Oxford)

New College is one of the colleges which together make up the world famous Oxford University.

It is situated in New College Lane.

The college was founded in 1379 by William of Wykeham, the Wiltshire peasant`s son who rose to become Bishop of Winchester and Chancellor of England. He also founded Winchester College.

In the chapel is Jacob Epstein`s statue "Ecce Homo".

The buildings are old, with mediaeval alleys, stables and farm buildings, and there is a fragment of the old City Wall.
