Crooked Billet (Old Leigh)

The Crooked Billet is an old inn in the historic fishing and shipbuilding town of Old Leigh in Essex.

Standing at the West end of the High Street, it is constructed in the Essex weatherboarding manner, and dates from around the 16th century.

A precipitous path known as Billet Lane connected the Crooked Billet with the newer town at the top of the hill. The lane is still there, but access to the High Street was severed in the 19th century by the coming of the railway.
