Market Place (Norwich)

The Market Place in the splendidly historic city of Norwich is one of the largest in England.

Visitors to the city are sometimes alarmed by the fact that the Market Place, with its gaily coloured stalls, is built on a slope.

There are a number of important buildings around the Market Place.

St. Peter Mancroft Church, begun in 1430, is the largest of Norwich's churches and has a definite magnificence.

The Guildhall, with its walls of chequered flint, was built in 1407, and was the seat of local government until as recently as 1938.

The Forum was one of England's major Millennium Projects. It contains Origins, an exploration of the city's history, and also the Tourist Information Centre.

Also around the Market Place are the City Hall, built in 1938, and the Norwich Union building.
