Northampton Museum and Art Gallery (Northampton)
Northampton Museum and Gallery is an excellent facility in Northampton.
It is situated in Guildhall Road.
The predominant subject in the museum is that for which Northampton is most famous, the boot and shoe industry. Having started in 1873, the collection includes more than 12,000 pairs. There are heavy shoes worn by John Clare in the asylum; Queen Victoria`s wedding slippers; and a pair of boots worn by an elephant who took part in the 19059 re-enactment of Hannibal`s crossing of the Alps. Designers represented include Vivienne Westwood and Jimmy Choo.
There is also a collection of mugs, and a fine selection of works by 16th to 18th century Italian painters.
