Monnow Bridge (Monmouth)

The Monnow Bridge is a celebrated bridge at the Welsh town of Monmouth.

It is a bridge over the River Monnow.

The narrow bridge itself dates from the 13th century, and so does the fortified gateway on the bridge. It was part of the town`s defences, guarding against attack from across the river.

It is the only surviving example of this kind of bridge and gateway in Britain.
