Melbourne Hall (Melbourne)

Melbourne Hall is a beautiful house at Melbourne in Derbyshire.

It dates back partly to the 16th century, and was the home of two Victorian Prime Ministers, William Lamb, Lord Melbourne (after whom the Australian city of Melbourne was named) and Lord Palmerston, as well as Lady Caroline Lamb.

The lovely gardens were created by Henry Wise. The intricate wrought iron summerhouse, known as the Birdcage, is by Robert Bakewell, and there is a fascinating yew tunnel.
