Heights of Abraham (Matlock Bath)
The Heights of Abraham is a major tourist attraction overlooking the Derbyshire riverside town of Matlock Bath.
It is about 1000 feet above the valley floor, and was named by an officer who had fought with General Wolfe on his Heights of Abraham campaign at Quebec in 1759.
Although it is possible to walk up to this park high above the Derwent gorge, the normal way of getting there is by the cable cars, which run spectacularly across the river and across the main road.
There are two show caverns, an Owl Maze and the Victorian Prospect Tower, as well as a delightful selection of woodland walks.
Also, there is a shop selling souvenirs, including rocks and fossils, as well as a coffee shop and restaurant.
