St. Michael`s Church (Lyme Regis)

St. Michael`s Church is the parish church of the Dorset seaside resort of Lyme Regis.

It is situated behind a cliff, and erosion has brought the sea to within 100 yards of the church.

It is an essentially mediaeval building, but the large West porch is part of the nave of a previous Saxon church on the site.

Above the chancel arch is a Victorian mural, whose subject is the Raising of the Cross.

A window commemorates Mary Anning, who began the practice of digging for fossils in 1812, when she was 10 years old. She found the first ichthyosaurus at the age of 12.

There is a 17th century canopied pulpit.
